Let's face, it most of us want nothing to do with digging into why the stucco is bulging out on the corner of the house or why the carpet gets wet around that one door. Is that crack in the wall or ceiling just from framing wood that dried and shrunk or is something up with the foundation of my home or property? How about the squeaky spot in the floor, or the soft spot in the floor over by the wall? Are they problems?
These are good questions and can sometimes be "indicators" that should be investigated. If you're a "do-it-yourselfer" then grab a flashlight and wood all, put some coveralls and gloves on and crawl in the attic, or under the house. Check the corners and areas that are giving you signs, see if you can find something that might signal why this is happening. If you're not satisfied with your own inspection, call a friend who has experience and knowledge of framing and foundation work, ask them to nose around. No friends with that kind of experience, call us, or another licensed and insured contractor.
We recently had a property owner call and after meeting and spending about 45 minutes under the house we were able to spot water and pest damage. The repair work was completed quickly and for only a few thousand dollars, rather than tens of thousands of dollars it would have cost if left undetected, or worse yet noticed but not dealt with.
Water and wood boring insects not only affect the appearance of your house or property, but also can undermine the integrity of the "structure" of your home. Left unattended these types of issues can add up quickly.
